This deed made this 2nd day of September in the year 1858 between N.E. May of the first part, and George W Dawson of the second part, Witnesseth that whereas the said N.E. May is indebted to Z R Lewis in the sum of Fourteen Hundred and thirty four Dollars due by bond bearing date 31st August 1858 with intest from 15n January 1858, to Mason & Lewis in the sum of two hundred & Sixty four dollars and 56 cents due by bond bearing date with this deed, and interest from 1st day of July 1858. Also to said Mason & Lewis in the further sum of about eighty dollars due by open account for sundries purchased of the said Mason & Lewis by said May since the 1st day of July last and not yet posted on the Books of the said Mason & Lewis, And the said May being desirous to secure the payment of these amounts to the said Z.R. Lewis & Mason and Lewis has in consideration of the premises, as well as of the sum of one dollar in hand paid by the said Dawson, sold to Geo W. Dawson the following property viz, one negro woman named Humphrey, one negro woman named Brittania, Three Horses, one yoke of Oxen, One Ox Cart, One two-horse wagon, one milch Cow, thirty head of hogs, One buggy and harness, one Sulky & harness, one Sulky & harness, one Piano _ also all the crops of corn, oats & wheat, now on the farm on which he lives_ all the house- hold & kitchen furniture of every description now in the house of the said May, also all his farming implements of every description, Plows, harrows, harness &c Also all the debts and claims he has due him the said May of every description_ In Trust nevertheless and on the following conditions viz. that if the said May shall pay to the said Z.R. Lewis and Mason & Lewis the the sums hereinbefore described with the interest that may accrue thereon within six months from this date then this deed and everything herein contained shall be void, but if the said May should fail or refuse to pay said debts, then or as soon thereafter as the said Z R Lewis or Mason & Lewis shall require, the said dawson, shall sell at Public Auction for cash, after having given ten days notice of the time and place of sale all the above mentioned property_ and out of the proceeds pay the debts before described to the said Z R Lewis, & Mason & Lewis in equal proportions and the residue if any hand over to the said May. Albemarle County, to wit;  I James W Mason a Justice of the Peace for the County aforesaid in the State of Virginia do certify that Newton E.
