Commonwealth of Virginia Albemarle County to wit
We the subscribers Samuel Powell and Jonathan Burksdale freeholders of the county of Albemarle in the State of Virginia, do hereby certify that Dinah aged seventeen years of the female sex 5 feet 3/4 inches high a negro and having on the left side of the nose black, was purchased, in Albemarle County by J Carter from John B Watts In witness whereof, we have signed the this certificate at Albemarle Courthouse this 21st day of Oct 1829. Samuel Powell and Jonathan Barksdale being duly sworn, do declare and say that they have known the slave Dinah mentioned in the above certificate bearing their signatures or several years, and that she has not within our knowledge been guilty or convicted of any crime but that she has a good moral character and not in the habit of running away. Subscribed and sworn to before at Albemarle on the 21 of october 1829. Saml Powell his mark. Jonathan Burksdale. Jno R Jones J.P.
Albemarle County to wit:
This day the within named Samuel Powell and Jonathan Burksdale personally appeared before me a Justice of the peace for the County aforesaid & made oath to the truth of the within certificate Given under my hand this 21st day of October 1829. Jno R Jones J Peace
I Alexander Garrett do hereby declare and certify that the preceding cerificate and declaration on oath of Samuel Powell and Jonathan Burskdale were executed and made before me as clerk of the county court of Albemarle, and I do further certify and declare that the said Samuel Powell and Jonathan Burksdale are men of good character and that they are not venders of the slave mentioned in the said certificate and declaration; and I do further declare and certify that the officer before whom the said declaration has been taken and made was, and still is duly authorized to administer oaths. Finally I do declare and certify that the said Samuel Powell and Jonathan Burksdale are respectable and well known freeholders of the county of Albemarle in the state of Virginia. In witness whereof I have signed the present certificate and affixed thereto seal of the court of which I am the clerk at my office this 21st Oct 1829 the 54th year of the commonwealth. Know all men by these presents that I John B. Watts of Albemarle County Virginia for value received have bargained and sold one negro woman named Dinah of the within description to J Carter, and I do hereby Warrant the title of said negro to said Carter. In Testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand & seal this 21st day of October 1829. Jno B Watts {seal}

This Bill of Sale and the certificates thereto were presented to me in said office and acknowledged by the parties and Thereupon admitted to record. Teste. Ira Garrett D.C.
